2020 BMW 3 Series vs Lexus ES

Famous fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy once said that “luxury is in each detail,” and that’s true for the 2020 BMW 3 Series sedan. When compared to the equally stunning Lexus ES, it’s the little things that make a difference when choosing a car to drive near Jackson, Clinton, and Ridgeland, MS. Read along for a review by BMW of Jackson that reveals the differences between these two luxury vehicles.

2020 BMW 3 Series

BMW 3 Series vs Lexus ES: Performance

If you want superior performance, the 3 Series surpasses the ES in several regards. No matter which BMW trim you choose, it propels you to new heights in a much faster manner.

The entry level trim, the 330i, gets you going from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.6 seconds, while the M340i xDrive trim sparks to high speed in just 4.1 seconds. You still get amazing pickup from the Lexus ES, which reaches 0 to 60 MPH in 6.6 seconds.

This pickup in the BMW could be attributed to the lower curb weight of 3,582 pounds while the Lexus curb weight tops the scales at 3,649 pounds, leading to more bulk. This helps the gas mileage for the BMW as well. The 3 Series gives you an EPA-estimated 26 city/36 highway MPG, while the ES peaks at 22 city/32 highway MPG.

At the base levels, the BMW produces 255 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque, but the M340i amps up to 382 horsepower supported by 369 lb-ft of torque. That’s more power than the ES presents in all its trims of 302 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque.

Infotainment Technology

Remember what Givenchy said. You get luxury in the details, and that means quite a bit when you pit the BMW 3 Series against the Lexus ES. They’re both excellent cars, but those extra standard amenities make a difference that cannot be beat.

In the 3 Series, your navigation system comes standard through Live Cockpit Plus and offers you four map updates per year. You can view this on the introductory 8.8-inch center screen. While the Lexus Enform Dynamic Navigation is available—it’s just that—available, and not standard, and it appears on a slightly smaller, 8-inch color display.

To initiate these actions, both the BMW and Lexus feature voice command, but the 3 Series adds an innovative option to guide your vehicle’s central nervous system to accomplish your desired tasks. BMW created a Gesture Control tool with five simple and natural gestures you use to operate your car. Lexus doesn’t have anything comparable.

Interior and Exterior Amenities

Stay comfortable in your vehicle with the BMW standard 14-way power front seats that come equipped with a memory system for both the driver and front passenger. You can also adjust the temperature throughout the vehicle with the automatic three-zone climate control. In the Lexus, you get standard 10-way power-adjustable front seats and dual-zone climate control.

On the outside, your memory-adjustable exterior mirrors in the 3 Series configure into two separate positions. You can install optional memory-adjustable exterior mirrors in the ES. To enhance your view through the front windshield, rain sensing wipers come included in your BMW, but in the Lexus, this is an extra add-on.
