Of course, this takes into consideration the entry-level editions of these vehicles. The BMW X5 xDrive50i comes with the xDrive, BMW’s all-wheel drive system, allowing you to drive a vehicle that provides a better grip on the roads with all-wheel drive capability.

This engine combines a pair of turbochargers with variable valve control and high-precision direct injection, delivering up to 456 horsepower in the process. The X5 M50i, the performance edition of this vehicle, comes with a BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8 that brings 523 horsepower for truly pavement-shaking performance.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE family maxes out with the GLE 580, which makes 483 horsepower with its V8 engine. It’s certainly a lot of power, but it’s not quite as powerful as what the X5 is capable of.

Thanks to their standard memory functionality, each of these vehicles will even remember the settings you want, even if someone else takes the wheel for an extended period.

However, when it comes to interior amenities, there’s one standard offering the X5 has that the GLE does not: a panoramic moonroof. The power tilt/slide roof in the GLE may let some fresh air in, but the panoramic roof extends to the second row in the X5. If you’re driving the GLE, you won’t get that kind of capability for your passengers.

Inside the BMW X5, drivers and front passengers have access to 40.7 inches of headroom and 38.7 inches of headroom in the second row.

Case in point, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE: It comes up a bit shy of the X5 front headroom at 40.5 inches, but shrinks as you move to the back, with just 36.9 inches of headroom for those in the second row. That’s a cramped ride in comparison.
